The Greatest Enemy of Our Life is Complacency

tags: life

Anything you achieve in life is not an accident. Your career, business and love life you have now is obtain from your own conscious effort. The greatest problem for most of us is that we tend to be complacent as we settle down in our career, business or life. Change is the most hated words for the majority of the people.

"Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals."
*-- Samuel Ullman

Often, when a person gets familiar with their work place, they find it difficult to change their job. They grew complacent and they can work their whole life in the same job learning nothing new that could improve their life. They are indeed self killing themselves by living their days through repetitive routine till they retired. That is why it is often been said that 10 years of working experience really means 1 year repeated 10 times. Is this the kind of repetitive life you want to lead?

"When you are finished growing and changing you are truly finished."
*-- Ben Franklin

Sure, complacent is love by everyone because it is easy as you do not have to tried anything new and subject yourself to painful failure. However, when you lived today life like yesterday, is life still worth living? What ever task you tried and failed, you experience more of life and you are more like a living person.

Remember if you stop growing and changing, your life is finished as your time will still passes. Time don't stop just because you stopped trying anything. Therefore, complacent is a bad habit by itself. It reduces your self-confidence as you tried to avoid anything difficult and always doing things that are easy. In the long run, a person who lived that kind of life will be as timid as a mouse.

"The problem in my life and other people's lives is not the absence of knowing what to do, but the absence of doing it."
*-- Peter Drucker

Most people know what they want to do with their live. However, complacency always step in with negative thoughts that stop them from doing what they should be doing. It stop them from updating their resume, it stop them from upgrading themselves and it stop them from taking any real action to do what they must do today in order to have a better tomorrow.

People who are complacence have too much worry and concern about their life. They are worry that they cannot find another better paying job when they never even tried sending out a single resume. They are worry that they might not have the time to study for exam and would rather spend their spare time at home watching TV programs every night.

Sooner or later, before the complacency person realize it, ten, twenty, thirty years passes by and that person have missed out those opportunities that could make him or her a successful person in their own life.

Life is too precious to be the same everyday.
