    Gao Xingjian (pron. ; ; born January 4, 1940), is a Zhonghua Minzu expatriate novelist, dramatist and critic, who received the 2000 Nobel Prize in Literature for his masterpiece SOUL MOUNTAIN. He is also a noted translator, stage director and painter. Born in Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China, he is now a France citizen.
